Local Area Caucus Results 08 Feb 12

Over 150 people were on hand for the New Ulm Area Republican Party Caucus Tuesday night. Brown County Republican Chair Jim Hahn says along with the presidential straw poll, the main purpose of the caucus is to elect delegates to the Republican County Convention on March 17th in Sleepy Eye. Those delegates will then choose delegates for the district and state conventions in April and May. Rick Santorum won Minnesota’s straw poll on Tuesday, with Ron Paul coming in second. The results were the same in Brown and Nicollet Counties, and elsewhere around the area, although Ron Paul was the winner in Blue Earth County following a strong showing of college students at their caucuses.

The results of the Brown County GOP Caucus on Tuesday:

Santorum: 129

Paul: 72

Romney: 39

Gingrich: 24

The results were the same across much of the state, with Santorum receiving over 44% of the vote & Ron Paul coming in second with around 27%.
