Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton will be visiting the community of Bird Island today (FRI), after last week’s stop was postponed due to the weather. Dayton will be at St. Mary’s School in Bird Island to honor a promise he made to 8th-grade student McKaia Ryberg. She sang the national anthem at Dayton’s inauguration after he heard her perform at a Tim Orth Foundation event in 2010. She also sang when President Obama came to Minneapolis in October of 2010. Ryberg had invited Governor Dayton to visit her school, and he decided to take her up on the offer. He was unable to fly into Bird Island last week because of snow and ice, but is now scheduled to be at St. Mary’s for a special program beginning at 10am today.
