A trial date has been set for the Mankato man accused of taking part in a drive-by shooting in the City of Gaylord last December. 23-year-old Michael Lamont Smith is charged with 2nd-degree assault, drive-by shooting, and committing a crime for the benefit of a gang in Sibley County Court for the December 1st incident in Gaylord. He is accused of firing a handgun at a mobile home in the community at least 9 times. No one was injured, and the home’s occupants identified Smith as a possible suspect. Tire tracks and shoe prints at the scene were linked to several vehicle break-ins in Arlington that occurred later that evening as well. Smith faces up to 15 years in prison for the drive-by. He is scheduled to be in court for a settlement conference on March 15th, and his jury trial would begin March 27th if needed.
