Last week’s redistricting of Minnesota’s legislative districts has led a southern Minnesota state senator to announce that he will not be seeking re-election this year. Republican Al DeKruif of Elysian says that he won’t run in the new Senate District 23, which also encompasses the district of Incumbent Republican Senator Julie Rosen of Fairmont. DeKruif has not ruled out moving his residence to District 20, however. That district includes the majority of Le Sueur County as well as parts of Rice and Scott counties, areas that DeKruif currently represents. He would then possibly face a re-match with former Democratic Senator Kevin Dahle of Northfield, who has announced plans to run for the seat. DeKruif expects to make a final decision in the next week.
