A St. James man has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide for the deaths of 2 people in a car crash just south of Mankato last year. 23-year-old Mark Anders Chalin reportedly had a woman on his lap when he crashed into an oncoming car on Blue Earth County Road 90 just east of the intersection with Highways 169 and 60 last August. Chalin was critically injured in the crash. His passenger, 23-year-old Amber Menezes of Mankato, and the driver of the other vehicle, 35-year-old Jonna Martin of Lakefield both died at the scene. Investigators later determined that Chalin was traveling around 65mph when he crashed into Martin, who was going around 20mph. Martin was wearing a seat belt. Chalin and Menezes were not. Chalin will make his first appearance in court for the 2 felony charges on March 8th.
