Criminal sexual conduct charges against a 46-year-old Mankato man accused of sexually molesting a 16-year-old boy were dismissed on Wednesday as part of a plea deal. Dennis Hogate had faced 3 felony charges of sexual conduct with a mentally impaired person for the alleged incidents with the autistic boy. Minnesota state law places the age of sexual consent at 16 unless the adult is in a position of authority over the victim, or the victim is mentally impaired. As part of a plea agreement, Hogate pleaded guilty to a new charge of interference with parental rights and the other 3 counts against him were dropped. He was released from jail after serving around a year. Sentencing will take place in March, and Hogate could face up to an additional 4 years in jail.
