A former eye doctor accused of sexually touching his patients made an appearance in court Tuesday, where he learned that he is now facing two additional charges. 50-year-old Todd James Gavin of Madelia was working for the Mankato Clinic when the allegations occurred. He is facing 2 felony and 2 gross misdemeanor charges for allegedly having 2 female patients remove their clothing during eye exams in 2010. He had already been reprimanded and sanctioned by the state for inappropriately touching other female patients as well. During Tuesday’s court hearing, Gavin argued that 2 of the original 4 charges against him be dismissed because he hadn’t actually touched the victim while her clothes were off. The Judge said he would consider those motions, but also suggested that the charges be replaced with ones related to licensing for medical facilities. Two additional gross misdemeanor charges were filed against Gavin as well over allegations from the second victim that he touched her sexually after having her remove her clothing during an exam.
