Capturing The Mayor Of New Ulm 17 Feb 12

The Fasching season gets underway this (FRI) afternoon in New Ulm. Fasching is the celebration of the German Mardi Gras, a festival dating back to medieval times marked by the peasants “living it up” and “talking back to their rulers.” In New Ulm Fasching begins with the city’s own masked fools, the Narren taking over the city this afternoon. The group will be kidnapping the mayor during the Noon hour today at City Hall before parading him around downtown in traditional Fasching attire and declaring a weekend of No Work. The Fasching celebration then continues in New Ulm at Turner Hall from Noon to 11 on Saturday, as well as with Bock Fest at the August Schell Brewery from 11am to 4pm Saturday.
