A Pennsylvania man was taken into custody at a downtown Mankato hotel Friday morning after an after falling through a bathroom ceiling in the hotel during an apparent burglary attempt. Employees at the City Center Hotel on East Main Street in Mankato called authorities to the scene after hearing a loud noise in the bathroom at around 12:45am and discovering 23-year-old Garrett Edwin Combs of Gifford, Pennsylvania in the bathroom. Combs had apparently pulled himself up into the dropped ceiling and was attempting to crawl across it when he fell through. When questioned by police, he said he was downtown with some friends and “thought it would be fun” to crawl through a ceiling. The hotel’s main office is next to the bathroom. Authorities are requesting charges of disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and attempted burglary.
