A Minnesota State Trooper was injured in a 3-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Redwood Falls. It happened at just after 4pm on Highway 67. 39-year-old Trooper Matthew Smith of Redwood Falls was driving his marked squad car southbound on 67 with his lights and siren on responding to an accident. A Chevy pickup driven by an unidentified juvenile male then failed to yield at the intersection with Redwood County Road 101 and the squad car struck a northbound Chevy Equinox head-on. The squad car and the Equinox then ended up in the ditch. Trooper Smith was taken to the Redwood Area Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The juvenile driver of the pickup and his passenger were not hurt, although the truck was totaled. The driver of the Equinox, 27-year-old Christopher Huwe of Morgan was uninjured, but his passenger, 28-year-old Darcy Huwe did suffer minor injuries. Two young children in their vehicle were not hurt. The squad car and the Equinox were totaled as well.
