A St. Peter man now faces felony-level charges for a hit and run incident that took place in Mankato this past October. 25-year-old Courtney Joseph Kupser is accused of striking 23-year-old Travis Hlavinka of Truman with his vehicle and then leaving the scene of the accident. He was identified as the driver through an anonymous tip. The more serious charge came after witnesses to the incident were interviewed by police. Kupser had claimed that he had not driven onto the sidewalk when he hit Hlavinka, as the victim had reported. Kupser also said that didn’t realize he had injured Hlavinka, a claim which has also come into doubt. Hlavinka suffered a broken wrist and large abrasions on his back and legs. Kupser is now facing a felony charge of criminal vehicular operation as well as gross misdemeanor failing to notify police about a crash involving injuries. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on January 26th.
