A Brown County grand jury has declined to indict a New Ulm police officer involved in a fatal car crash last July. Officer Mathew Rasmussen was driving a New Ulm Police squad car on July 8th when the vehicle struck a car driven by Myra Meyer of New Ulm on New Ulm’s North Garden Street. Meyer and her son, Brian Wichmann, who was a passenger in her vehicle, both died from their injuries following the collision. This week’s grand jury ruling means that no further charges will be considered against Officer Rasmussen. A number of felony and misdemeanor criminal counts had reportedly been considered, with the grand jury ultimately ruling that no indictment will be issued, so no criminal charges will be filed.
