Legislative Session & Vikings Stadium 24 Jan 12

The 2012 legislative session begins today (TUE) at noon, and one of the major issues this year will be the Vikings’ push for a new stadium. Lead Senate sponsor, Fairmont Republican Julie Rosen, says the team’s lease at the Metrodome is up, they’re free agents and “we can’t keep putting it off.” Rosen predicts they’ll have a bill put together by March 1st, but adds it probably won’t be up for a floor vote that soon. Governor Dayton says that revamping the Metrodome is the only way a stadium deal can be reached in the legislature this year.  The Vikings say the site would not provide as good of a game day experience, and would cost the team more money to play at TCF Bank stadium while construction is under way.
