A series of lectures commemorating the US-Dakota War of 1862 continue this week at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. The series continues on Tuesday with it’s most prominent speaker, Dr. Gary Clayton Anderson, considered the foremost historian on the US-Dakota War. The presentations are free and open to the public, and due to a larger than expected audience at the initial lectures they will now be held at the Gustavus Alumni Hall. They take place from 4 to 5:30pm, with the other lectures in the series taking place January 17th, 24th and 26th. Gustavus had just opened its doors for the first time in the fall of 1862 while the war was raging across southern Minnesota. The lectures are being held in conjunction with an Interim Experience class at Gustavus titled “Commemorating Controversy.” For more information go to www.gustavus.edu.
