Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton will be visiting the community of Bird Island today (FRI). Dayton will be at St. Mary’s School in Bird Island to honor a promise he made to 8th-grade student McKaia Ryberg. She sang the national anthem at a Tim Orth Foundation event in 2010 that Dayton attended, and he then invited her to perform the anthem at not only his inauguration, but also when President Obama came to Minneapolis in October of 2010. Ryberg had invited Governor Dayton to visit her school, and now he’s taking her up on the offer. He will be accompanied by Senator Gary Kubly of Granite Falls as well. A special program to welcome the two to Bird Island will take place beginning at 1:30pm today at St. Mary’s.
Governor Dayton’s visit to St. Mary’s School in Bird Island today (FRI) was postponed. The Governor was unable to fly into Bird Island due to the weather. The visit has been re-scheduled for Friday, February 3rd at 10am.
