The New Ulm City Council on Tuesday made the first move towards making repairs and handicap-accessibility upgrades to the amphitheater in German Park. New Ulm Park and Rec Director Tom Schmitz says the project is still in it’s early stages. Schmitz says the project will come back before the council many times in the near future. The proposal was part of the original Master Plan for the park. An anonymous donor has contributed $25,000 towards the project, and the Friends of German Park are planning future fundraisers for the amphitheater upgrades. In other business Tuesday, the Council learned that a total of 45 deer were harvested as part of New Ulm’s 2011 Special Archery Hunt Deer Control Program. That was 25 less deer than the prior year. A total of 467 deer were spotted within the city limits during the special hunt, or just about 200 less than in 2010.
