Governor Dayton on Tuesday unveiled his $775-million bonding package for public works projects. His proposal includes improvements at colleges and universities, a new State Emergency Operations Center, flood mitigation grants and a dolphin tank at the Minnesota Zoo. Dayton says his package will create more than 21,000 jobs at a time when thousands of Minnesotans are out of work. Senate Republican Leader Dave Senjem responds that the purpose and scope of the bonding bill is to repair and build infrastructure, not to serve as stimulus or short-term jobs programs. Proposed Bonding Bill projects in the local area include renovations at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, continued improvements to the Minnesota Prairie Line Railroad, the replacement of the Lake Titloe Dam, work on a Redwood County-Sleepy Eye Trail Loop, and more.
