Cause Of Vernon Center Fire 30 Jan 12

A fire in Vernon Center that destroyed most of a one-story home is being blamed on a spontaneous chemical combustion. Investigators say the fire began on the back porch of the home after rags used for staining spontaneously ignited in a trash can. The fire then moved through the home and into the attic. Both residents were able to escape without harm. The structure is still standing, but the roof was almost completely destroyed.
