Work is nearing completion on the new Brownton Area Civic Center. The civic center is being created through the renovation of the former McLeod West High School building on the south end of Brownton. It will be the home of the Brownton Public Library as well as the city clerk’s office and city council chambers. The project got underway in November of 2010 after Brownton voters approved an $850,000 bond issue to renovate the west end of the building. The bond passed with a 29 vote-margin. The city also received nearly $230,000 in grant money for window and door replacement. The project is now in it’s final stage, with the Brownton city offices and library expected to move in as early as next week.
