Baby Murder Sentencing Delay 30 Jan 12

The sentencing of a St. Peter man accused of killing his infant son was delayed Friday. 28-year-old Christopher Farris pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder in Nicollet County Court in late November. The 3-month-old boy died at a Mankato hospital in September of 2010, and investigators later determined that the death was a homicide resulting from head trauma. Farris initially claimed that the baby hit his head in a doorway as he was being pulled from a chair, but later admitted to violently shaking him for 10 minutes, attempting to force a pacifier into his mouth, and biting his cheek in an effort to revive him. In court Friday, Nicollet County Judge Todd Westphal said he’ll announce Farris’ sentence on February 14th after reviewing testimony from the hearing along with written arguments from both sides. Farris faces up to 15 years in prison, but may be possibly sentenced to only around 4 years.
