A St. Peter man has been charged with felony 3rd-degree assault and child endangerment over accusations that he physically abused a 7-week-old infant. 41-year-old Todd Michael Meyer had been caring for the baby in St. Peter while the mother was at work. He reportedly called her about an hour after she left and stated that something was wrong with the child. She brought the baby to the emergency room several hours later, and it was learned that the infant had suffered 3 rib fractures. When interviewed by police, Meyer initially claimed that the baby had fallen on the floor while he was changing a diaper, but later admitted that the baby had been crying and he had squeezed it several times. He faces the possibility of 5 years in prison on each charge as well as up to $10,000 in fines.
