The shovels got busy on Sunday for many folks in southern Minnesota. Final weekend snow tallies from the National Weather Service show that Nicollet, Blue Earth, Steele and Dakota Counties all received more than 5 inches of snow. Lesser amounts fell as far north as Pine County and as far west as Nobles County in southwestern Minnesota. New Ulm received just under 4 inches of snow. A few inches of snow made for a busy weekend for the Minnesota State Patrol, as troopers responded to a few hundred accidents and spin-outs. Between 4pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday, there were a total of 189 crashes statewide, with 22 involving injuries. The state patrol also dealt with 193 vehicles that went off the road or spun out, 103 of those in the Twin Cities area. The Patrol reported one fatality, a pedestrian from Pine City struck while crossing Highway 48 east of Hinckley in Pine County Saturday night, but it was not weather related.
