The New Ulm City Council approved the city’s 2012 budget and tax levy with no further discussion on Tuesday. New Ulm’s budget for next year will be $21.5 million, and the city’s property tax levy will increase by only .95%. Several public hearings and council workshops were held on the budget prior to it’s approval Tuesday. In other business, the council agreed to set the annual fee for a Brewer’s Tap Room On-Sale Liquor License at $400. August Schell Brewing Company President Ted Marti says they will likely use the license around 3 times a year, including for Bockfest, a possible Oktoberfest event, and maybe a summer event. Marti did agree with the council that, theoretically, the license allows the brewery to sell on-sale beverages out of their tap room at any time. Also on Tuesday, the Council approved a 2.75% increase in non-union city employee wages, issued 2 Bed and Breakfast licenses for 2012, and designated 6 annual celebrations as “Community Events.”
