The investigation into an explosion at a trailer in New Ulm on Thanksgiving night continues, and one of the men involved in the accident remains hospitalized. Andrew Schenk of Blue Earth and Jonathan Moldan of New Ulm were inside the trailer on the 800 block of South Valley Street in New Ulm when the explosion occurred at shortly after 8pm last Thursday. The fire that followed the explosion was quickly extinguished. Both Schenk and Moldan were taken to the New Ulm Medical Center with severe burns and were then transferred to the Hennepin County Medical Center. Schenk is still being treated in the HCMC burn ward. The investigation into the incident was delayed by the Thanksgiving holiday, and the cause has not yet been determined. It’s believed that fumes from an unsealed gasoline container were ignited by either cigarettes or exposed wires.
