A total of 4 candidates have filed for a vacant Martin County Board seat, meaning that a Primary Election will be held on December 20th. The District 1 Martin County Board seat is vacant following the resignation of Gerald Boler in September after he pleaded guilty to double-billing the county more than $1,100 for conference reimbursements. The district covers the eastern portion of the county, including Truman, Granada, East Chain and the northeast section of Fairmont. The candidates on the Primary ballot on December 20th include: Winnebago Police Chief Bob Toland, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Southern Minnesota Brad Berg of Truman, former Truman Mayor and City Councilor Elliott Belgard, and the Quality Assurance Coordinator at CrownTonka in Winnebago, Steven W. Pierce. The top 2 vote-getters in the Primary will take part in the Special Election for the seat on February 14th. The seat will then be on the ballot during the general election next November as well.
