A special Primary Election was held for Martin County’s District 1 county board seat on Tuesday, and 2 candidates will now move on to a Special Election for the seat on February 14th. The top 2 vote-getters in Tuesday’s Primary were Elliot Belgard of Truman with 195 votes and Bob Toland of Winnebago with 146 votes. The other 2 candidates were Steven W. Pierce, who received 25 votes, and Bradley Berg with 18 votes. A total of 16% of eligible voters cast a ballot on Tuesday. Martin County’s District 1 covers the eastern portion of the county, including Truman, Granada, East Chain and the northeast section of Fairmont. The seat is vacant following the resignation of Gerald Boler, who admitted to double-billing the county for conference reimbursements. Following the Special Election on February 14th the seat will also be on the ballot during the general election in November.
