The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced that the upcoming reconstruction of Highway 4 will take place on the highway’s existing route through the City of St. James. The project is being planned for 2016. The decision is in line with a recent recommendation from the City of St. James as well as public input. Mn/DOT and the city had considered rerouting Highway 4 with a west bypass around the city using existing county roads, but due to added costs and limited traffic that would use the bypass, the decision to keep the current alignment was made. Mn/DOT will continue to work closely with city officials as they develop the construction plans for Highway 4. Additional public meetings will be held in the future as well to gather input into the highway designs.
