Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter is hosting a series of 6 lectures throughout the Month of January commemorating the US-Dakota War of 1862. Gustavus had just opened its doors for the first time in the fall of 1862 while the war was raging across southern Minnesota. The series of lectures detailing the war and it’s impact on Minnesota are free and open to the public. They are being held from 4 to 5:30pm at Gustavus on January 4th, 5th, 10th, 17th, 24th and 26th, and include topics such as Writings of the Dakota People, The Dakota War Trials, Aftermath of the 1862 War, and more. The lectures are being held in conjunction with a January Interim Experience class at Gustavus titled “Commemorating Controversy” as well.
