Fatal Crash May Have Involved Cell Phone 31 Dec 11

Authorities continue to investigate a fatal car crash that took place in rural Blue Earth County earlier this month, and are now looking into whether the woman behind the wheel was using a cell phone at the time of the accident. 18-year-old Kelsie Seykora of rural Lake Crystal lost control of her car on County Road 33 south of Mankato and hit an oncoming pickup truck. One of Seykora’s passengers, 20-year-old Daniel Stahl of Alden was later pronounced dead at a Rochester hospital. Seykora and her other passengers suffered various injuries. The group were reportedly returning to Mankato after looking for a party in the Lake Crystal area when Seykora lost control on the snowy road. She was ejected from the car with her cell phone, leading investigators to speculate she may have been using it at the time. A search warrant was filed this week to obtain the records for the phone. A deputy had allegedly recovered marijuana from Seykora’s coat pocket following the crash as well.
