Dayton To Wait For Childcare Union Vote 07 Dec 11

Governor Dayton won’t make another move on a daycare unionization push until after a Minnesota judge issues a written order explaining his reasons for sidetracking a planned vote by in-home providers. The Democratic governor met Tuesday with Attorney General Lori Swanson about the ruling a day earlier. A Ramsey County judge issued a restraining order preventing the union election Dayton had authorized. The governor decided they would wait for the written ruling that will accompany Monday’s verbal decision. Thousands of in-home child care providers were due to receive ballots asking if they wanted to unionize. Opponents argued that Dayton didn’t have the power to order an election and they questioned why some providers wouldn’t get a vote.
