The Minnesota Historical Society announced a series of Historical and Cultural Heritage grants this week, and the Brown County Historical Society was among the recipients. The grants are funded with money raised through the Legacy Amendment approved by Minnesota voters in 2008. The Brown County Historical Society will be receiving a $6,350 dollar grant to help restore the museum’s third floor in preparation for the 150th Anniversary of the US Dakota War events scheduled for next August in and around Brown County. The grant money will specifically be used to clean, repair and refinish the floor on the upper level of the museum, clean the brick walls, repaint exposed woodwork and beams, and retrofit new ceiling lights. Other Heritage grants were awarded to the Blue Earth, Nicollet, and Renville County Historical Societies as well as the Redwood Falls Public Library.
