Authorities continue to investigate the death of a 19-year-old man in a goose hunting accident north of Danube Saturday morning, and the victim has now been identified as Nicholas J. Verdoes of Redwood Falls. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at about 9:45am Saturday reporting that someone in a hunting party had been shot. Emergency responders arrived to find Verdoes with a single gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A group of hunters had reportedly been hunting geese together about a half mile north of Danube in Troy Township when one of their guns accidentally discharged, striking Verdoes. No one else was injured.
