A Special Election was held in Watonwan County on Tuesday to fill a vacant county board seat, and the race came down to a difference of only 5 votes. The First District Watonwan County Board seat was open following the death of Commissioner Dwayne Krenz. The district lies completely in the City of Madelia. Raymond Gustafson received a total of 170 votes in Tuesday’s election, and John Hoeft received 165 votes, meaning that an automatic recount will be held. A total of 336 ballots were cast out of the more than 2,300 eligible voters. The winner of the election will now begin their duties with the Watonwan County Board on the first Monday in January.
