A 19-year-old from Sleepy Eye faces a felony charge after allegedly assaulting a police officer over the weekend. Sleepy Eye Police had responded to an out-of-control party behind the Sleepy Eye Laundromat Saturday night, and found that a sheriff’s deputy and another man were restraining Samuel Hernandez. As the officers attempted to handcuff Hernandez he allegedly made all 3 fall down a stairwell and hit the deputy in the face several times. He then reportedly vomited on himself and on the floor of a squad car before passing out. Hernandez then had to be restrained in a hospital before being transported to the New Ulm Detox. He had a blood-alcohol level of .25 at the time, or more than 3 times the legal limit for driving. He has been charged with felony and misdemeanor assault as well as gross misdemeanor obstructing arrest.
