Prescription drug drop-offs were held around the local area, and the nation on Saturday, and locally are being called a great success. These “Take-Back” events are coordinated by the Drug Enforcement Agency, and local sites this year included several in Nicollet County as well as Le Sueur, Waseca and Brown counties. In New Ulm, over 152 pounds of unused and unwanted medication was collected. Collection events were held in Sleepy Eye and Springfield as well. In St. Peter, over 110 pounds of prescription medication was collected at 3 different locations as well. Many area police departments continue to collect unwanted medication throughout the year as well, including in New Ulm, where a special drop-off safe has been put in place at the Brown County Law Enforcement Center.
