An 18-year-old from New Ulm accused of stealing a pickup truck from the New Ulm Civic Center has been sentenced to 20 days in jail and 2 years of supervised probation for the crime. Tyler James Steinmetz was convicted of gross misdemeanor theft in Brown County Court on Monday, and a tampering with a motor vehicle charge was dismissed. The Brown County Ag Society truck was stolen from the New Ulm Civic Center parking lot in late July, and was later found in the nearby Hillside Apartments. Steinmetz admitted to taking the truck. In court on Monday he was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines and write a letter of apology.
