The Minnesota Department of Transportation is advising motorists to use caution in southwestern Minnesota this weekend due to icy roads caused by rain, wet snow and freezing temperatures. Counties impacted the most by poor driving conditions include Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin, Nobles, Rock and Watonwan. Officials do not anticipate any highway closures, but motorists may encounter brief lane and road closures where crashes occur. Motorists are reminded to drive slowly on bridges, overpasses and tunnels, use a safe speed for winter driving conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit, keep a safe stopping distance from the vehicle in front of you, and keep both hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road and attention on your driving. For updated information on road conditions statewide, call 511 or log on to www.511mn.org.
