Lake Crystal Police Chief Tony Cornish on Tuesday announced his intent to resign from the position next year. The 4-term Republican State Representative from Good Thunder has served in a variety of law enforcement jobs over the past 37 years. He ended a long career as a Department of Natural Resources conservation officer in 2003, and had previously served as an Amboy police officer and a Blue Earth County deputy. He became the Lake Crystal Police Chief in 2007, initially taking the job on an interim basis. Cornish plans to step down from the top cop position on January 1st, although he says he’s willing to continue on the job until the end of the 2012 legislative session if more time is needed to hire his replacement. He also says he may consider a run for Blue Earth County Sheriff at some point in the future.
