Highway 169 Crash Causes Car Fire 03 Nov 11

A North Mankato teenager was injured Wednesday morning when the vehicle she was a passenger in spun out of control on Highway 169 and hit a barrier before bursting into flames. The crash happened at just before 7:30am on the North Star Bridge on 169 in North Mankato. The teenage driver of the Oldsmobile Alero, whose name will not be released, was southbound on 169 when he lost control of the car. It struck the barrier head-on and came to rest in the middle of the highway and burst into flames. All 3 of the occupants were able to escape safely. Emma St. Peter of North Mankato was treated for minor injuries at the Mankato Mayo Hospital. No one else was hurt, although the car was totaled. An investigation into the crash is underway.
