Henderson Rescinds Police Chief Offer 17 Nov 11

The Henderson City Council this week unanimously voted to rescind it’s employment offer to a chief of police candidate. A special meeting was held Monday evening to discuss the results of a background check for Michael Cherney of Adams, who was offered the Henderson police chief position in late September. His hiring was contingent upon the results of the background check, and based on those findings the council withdrew it’s offer to hire him. The results of the check were not made public, but Cherney was reportedly fired from a law enforcement job in Florida 20 years ago, and had been turned down for the Lewiston Police Chief position last summer after another background check. Henderson’s Personnel Committee will now develop a new process for selecting the city’s next police chief, and present it during the council’s December meeting. In the meantime Sibley County Chief Deputy Pat Nienaber will continue to serve as Interim Henderson Police Chief. Former Henderson Police Chief Chester Aldrich retired on October 1st
