The Glencoe Silver Lake School District has announced that it will begin employing drug-sniffing dogs to conduct periodic searches of school buildings. The dogs come from a company called “Interquest Canine,” and will be used to search for illicit drugs and other potentially harmful materials. Glencoe Silver Lake officials say it is an issue of school safety to discourage students from bringing illegal substances into school buildings. The dogs will be used an average of once a month, and their visits will be unannounced. The initiative will cost the district $300 for each half-day visit, plus mileage.
