The final calculations have been added up, and the first year of operation for the Gaylord Aquatic Center was “better than expected.” The new Aquatic Center lost nearly $11,000 during it’s first summer, but Gaylord city officials had been told by the designers of the water park that such facilities typically lose $30,000 their first year, and the city had budgeted for a loss of more than $66,000. A total of 31,786 admissions were sold throughout the Gaylord Aquatic Center’s 90-day summer season, and revenues totaled more than $160,000, or nearly $69,000 more than expected.
