The cause of a fire at the New Ulm KFC-Taco Bell building more than two months ago has still not been released by the state Fire Marshall’s office, but restaurant management says they will reopen. The KFC kitchen fire occurred the morning of August 21st. New Ulm Firefighters had the fire under control within about 2 hours, and no one was hurt. Fire damage was primarily contained to the kitchen, although the majority of the restaurant did sustain smoke damage. The amount of damage was initially estimated at around 300-thousand dollars, although it is expected to significantly exceed that amount because all of the equipment, walls and ceilings have since been removed, with more work still to be done. Restaurant Operations Manager Joleen Ahlstrand says that the business will be rebuilt, and that plans are to reopen sometime in March.
