Authorities are reminding everyone to secure their prescription medications following the accidental overdose of 2 young children Thursday morning. Mankato Public Safety officers were called to a home where at least 2 children were thought to have taken a large amount of Valium pills accidentally. The children were taken to the Emergency room, and their current condition is unknown. Prescription drug abuse is the biggest drug problem law enforcement agencies deal with in the local area. Special prescription drug collection events are taking place around the area this Saturday for unused and unwanted medications. The “Take It To The Box” prescription drop-offs take place from 10am to 2pm at local police departments and other locations across southern Minnesota.
