A primary election was held in Watonwan County Tuesday to fill a vacant county board seat. The First District Watonwan County Board seat is open following the death of Commissioner Dwayne Krenz. The district lies completely in the City of Madelia, and 4 candidates filed for the position. In Tuesday’s Primary, Raymond Gustafson received 79 votes, John Hoeft got 43 votes, Bruce Young had a total of 34 votes, and Lawrence Peterson received 7 votes. Gustafson and Hoeft will now compete in the special election for the seat on November 29th. The winner of that contest will begin their duties on the first Monday in January.
