The hot, dry weather is prompting campfire restrictions across Minnesota. DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr has ordered restrictions on open burning effective immediately. Open burning will be allowed only for special exceptions by the county, state or federal agency that has permitting responsibility. Recreational or campfires will only be allowed in a designated fire receptacle at a home, campground or resort, although many counties have enacted bans on recreational burning as well. Contact your local sheriff’s office for details on burning restrictions in your county.
