Dozens of special deer hunts are planned this fall at Minnesota State Parks. The DNR’s Ed Quinn says the hunts are designed to help manage deer numbers and prevent over-browsing. Some state parks will remain open to all visitors, some will have limited public access, and some will be open only to hunters with special permits. More information is available on the DNR’s website. Locally, the City of New Ulm is having an archery deer hunt that will take place partially in Flandrau State Park beginning October 15th. The park will remain open to all visitors during that time. Fort Ridgely and Minneopa State Parks have no deer hunts taking place this year.
