The filing period for candidates interested in filling a vacant Martin County Board seat opened today (TUE). The District 1 Martin Commissioner position is open after the previous holder of the seat pleaded guilty to felony theft. Commissioner Gerald Boler resigned last month after admitting to double-billing the county for more than $1,100 in reimbursements from attending conferences over a 3 year period. He served as a Martin County Commissioner for 10 years. The filing period to fill the seat is now open through Tuesday, October 25th. If a primary is needed in the race it would then be held on December 20th, with the special election for the seat taking place February 14th. The seat will then be on the ballot during the general election next November as well. Martin County’s District 1 covers the eastern portion of the county, including Truman, Granada, East Chain and the northeast section of Fairmont.
