A machine shed full of equipment was destroyed by a fire in rural Blue Earth County early Wednesday morning. The fire started at around 4am in a shed owned by Dan Penkert off of Blue Earth County Road 11 in South Bend Township. South Bend firefighters were assisted at the scene by fire departments from Good Thunder, Lake Crystal, and North Mankato. Crews took about three and a half hours to put out the fire. No one was hurt, but the shed and its contents are a total loss. The state fire marshall’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
