The New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf continues to serve hundreds of individuals every month. Executive Director Sharon Sanford says the number of people served was down slightly in September from the record usage the food shelf has experienced in recent months. A total of 175 families and 444 individuals used the food shelf in September, and 16,450 pounds of food was distributed. Sanford says the New Ulm Food Shelf is currently in need of macaroni and cheese, boxed potatoes, canned fruit, beans, and peas, and toilet tissue. Donations can be dropped off at the food shelf facility on South Valley Street in New Ulm Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:15am to 3pm or at the drop-off points in New Ulm grocery stores and churches. The food shelf is also in need of volunteer drivers. Call (507)354-7668 to learn more.
